Stanley M. Brand has enjoyed success representing corporations, trade associations, labor unions, and individuals in major justice department, grand jury and independent counsel investigations and trial proceedings including Whitewater, HUD, the savings and loan crisis, the campaign finance task force investigations, and Major League Baseball in a congressional investigation of its steroid policy.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Brand served as general counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives, and was the chief legal officer responsible for representing the House, its members, officers and employees in connection with legal procedures and challenges to the conduct of their official activities. With over thirty years of experience, Professor Brand offers clients a particularly sharp insight into federal regulatory and legislative practice in Washington, DC. In addition to his legal work, Professor Brand serves as the Vice-President of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues.

Mr. Brand has extensive experience representing individuals and organizations called to testify before the U.S. Congress, developing deep expertise in matters involving the separation-of-powers doctrine. His practice includes defending corporations, trade associations, labor unions, and individuals in high-profile Department of Justice investigations, grand jury proceedings, and independent counsel inquiries, including the Whitewater investigation, HUD scandals, the savings and loan crisis, and campaign finance investigations. He has also represented clients in contested election matters.
From 1976 to 1983, Mr. Brand served as General Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives under Speaker Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill, Jr., where he was the House’s chief legal officer, responsible for representing the institution, its members, officers, and employees in litigation arising from official duties.
Since leaving government service, Mr. Brand has been at the center of many significant political and public corruption cases, representing clients such as George Stephanopoulos during the Whitewater investigation, former Congressman and Gore 2000 Campaign Manager Tony Coelho, House Majority Whip Bill Gray, Congressmen Dan Rostenkowski and Joe McDade, and former executive branch officials.
Before joining Zealous Advocates, Mr. Brand was the founding partner of the Brand Law Group, followed by a distinguished tenure at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
