Juan Mercedes is an Associate in the firm’s Criminal Defense Practice Group, where he is dedicated to vigorously defending the rights of individuals facing criminal charges. With a strong foundation in trial advocacy and a passion for justice, Mr. Mercedes brings a unique perspective and an unwavering commitment to every client he represents.
Mr. Mercedes is known for his compassionate, client-centered approach and his ability to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds. Fluent in both English and Spanish, he ensures that every client feels heard, understood, and empowered throughout the legal process.
Outside the courtroom, Mr. Mercedes is deeply engaged in community outreach. He volunteers his time organizing and leading “Know Your Rights” seminars at local churches and charitable organizations, helping individuals better understand their legal protections and how to navigate encounters with law enforcement.

Mr. Mercedes is a recent graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he distinguished himself as a skilled litigator and passionate advocate. He was a two-year member of the National Trial Team, earning the rare honor of being the only 2L selected to compete in the school’s regional competition. As a 3L, he served as the Trial Team Liaison on the University’s Board of Advocates and competed in multiple national tournaments.
His commitment to criminal defense was evident during his time as a student attorney in the University of Baltimore’s Criminal Defense Clinic, where he represented indigent clients facing serious charges. Prior to his clinic experience, he clerked for the Maryland Office of the Public Defender – Felony Division, as well as for Eldridge Crandell. In these roles, he second-chaired trials, assisted in case preparation, and worked closely with clients, particularly Spanish-speaking individuals, to ensure their voices were effectively represented.
A proud Dominican American, Mr. Mercedes is also a former collegiate athlete, having played football at Stevenson University. In his personal time, he enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, superhero films, and watching football.
